This retrofit construction applies a switchable PDLC film to the surface of an existing glass pane. The film connects to a controller through an edge bus, and its perimeter receives a protective seal. Electrical switching alternates the surface between translucent privacy and a transparent viewing state. The approach preserves the installed glazing assembly while adding a new functional layer, making it useful when privacy is needed after a laboratory or medical observation window has already been fitted.
