The shear lock combines an electromagnet with an armature that aligns as the door reaches the closed position. Engagement transfers the retaining load through the shear arrangement rather than relying only on the broad pull face used by a conventional surface magnet. Both parts are recessed into suitable door and frame preparations. The resulting installation is suited to openings where visible lock housings would interrupt the surrounding door profile.
