The door construction cannot easily accept a recessed sensor.
Both sensing parts attach to the available surface.
The switch housing and matching magnet mount opposite each other on the door and frame. As the two parts separate, the reed contact changes state for the connected monitoring input. The surface format is useful where drilling a deep recess would be inconvenient or where a visible sensor is acceptable. It supplies position feedback to an interlock or access controller; its contact signal describes the door position rather than the mechanical engagement of a separate lock.
